What do you mean exactly? There is always a feedback page at the end of the exercise, so you could modify this page to add a kind of "certification" bu I am not sure to see what you expect.

I've got the same question.

After a student has successfully completed a course,is there a way to generate a Certificate which the student can then print off?

It's not possible because we didn't wrote a script like that.

But with claroline 1.8, we can write a module tool to generate certificate.

Could you post here, your requirements for this tool.

Do you work in a school, training center,...

I am the co-founde of a non-profit organization which offers certification to emergency communications volunteers. One of the services we wish to provide using Claroline is a portal where these volunteer can have access to training materials.

After completing a course on the site we need to provide to the volunteer a form of proof that they have indeed successfully completed it.

This is normally done using a certificate. Most LMSs I've seen allow you to generate a pdf document from a template.

You upload a generic pdf certificate, when you assign it to a course the template will pull the courses name and the student name and date of completion. The student can then print this off.

The format of the document would not need to be pdf, although it does need to be secure so it can not be altered by anyone but the administrator or course manager and pdf works best for this. also because everyone has or can get Acrobat Reader for free.

So all we need is a way to tell the system what the file name of the template is (assign it to a course) and then have it pull the associate files from the database. (course name, possible course code, student name, and course completion date.

This would best used within a Learning Path, this way you can block access to the certificate until a student has successfully completed all course requirements.

On the question of a transcript, since were just now building our site and are not yet offering courses, what does the student see regarding the courses they have taken and completed?

Thanks

Chris

Mathieu

can I send you a zip file of the Moodle module they use for certificates?

I'd try modifying it, but just don't know php.

Maybe you can modify it for use with Claroline

I'm also very interested on certificate as descripted in this post by nrcev.
The moodle script is a good example but a little difficult to link to the exercise completation event.

In my opinion, the event flow my be like this:

1. student complete exercise
2. button >> "Do you want to print certificate?"
3. yes >> popup with PDF
4 if student email present in DB >> mailsend PDF.

I like this idea too. I believe a student would feel proud to print off their own certificate after passing a course.

Found a way to do this

Postby nrcev » Sat Aug 25, 2007 6:23 pm

I have found a way to provide a certificate at the end of a course. Not perfect but it works.

I created a pdf certificate (using Adobe Acrobat, not the reader). On the certificate is created a field for the user to enter their name.

The only way they gain access to the certificate is by successfully completing the final exam. This is done by locking the learning path module that contains the certificate and is unlocked only by the student receiving a passing grade on the exam module, located immediately before the certificate module.

If it is scripted correctly this should not be a problem

Hello,

I also intend to let students have a printable certificate at the and of their cursus.
May i ask you how you made your PDF implementation?
(I use Acrobat 0.7 Pro)
Some help would be very welcomed.

I first created the Certificate in MSWord then created a PDF version using Acrobat 7.0 Pro. Then using Acrobat 7.0 Pro I created a fillable text field
for the student to enter their name on the certificate.

I then uploaded this to the course Documents section (the certicate or Documents need to be hidden from students here)

In the Learning Path, the certificate is the last madule. Just before the Certificate is the the course Test, which is locked and requires a specified passing grade in order for the system to access the certificate.

So, once the student passes the final test they are given access to the certificate, which they are instructed to open and enter their name on it.
They can then print it out.

This is not a perfect solution, but until I an option to modify the student registration form is provided, I cannot "pull" the student name from the database to have it automatically included on the certificate.

hope that helps

yet

Thank you for your answer.
This is great though!
The thing I have also to get an understanding is about how to "lock" and how to implement "specified passing grades". Actually i have no idea how to manage this sort of things...

a) First lesson free of charge
b) Following lesson(s) small charge(s) with PayPal payement(s) with a "given access" when payement confirmation is sent by payPal (i guess).
c) Followup of the students progresses through each courses of a level.
d) Certification at the and of each of the 4 levels.
e) Final Diploma

Is there a specific tutorial about these personalized lock and unlock solutions?

Have a nice evening

Can't help you with the paypal part, I have worked with that.

As for locking - you do this in the Learning path.

When you add a module you will notice their is a gold/yellow padlock that appears.

To block/lock the course - meaning some criteria must be met to move to the next level, make sure the packlock is closed.

To implement a minimum score your also do this from the Learning Path.
Click on the Edit Icon for the module(exam) you want to set a minimum passing score for to be able to move to the next module.

Near the bottom of the page you will see:
"Change minimum raw mark to pass this module (percentage) " with a box next to it. Enter the minimum score. i.e. 75 or 80 or whatever you want. Then click the OK button.

This along with the Block/Lock feature allow you to set the requrement for the student to obtain a minimum score to be able to move on to the next module.

That should get you started.

Certificate for completing module

Postby ECROSS » Sat Dec 22, 2007 3:38 am

I read the posts about creating a certificate in a Learning Path but I have these issues and would appreciate some help:

1) I have no place to enter a passing score
2) I have no padlock to lock/unlock an item under a test for the certificate.

Can someone please help me here?

Thanks for the reply - but when I add the exercise of the Final Exam, and I block it, then go into the Final Exam object, I have no place to add a score required to pass it! Please advise. I have emailed you the portal address along with user/password and details. Please advise.

Are you not able to open the certificate module or is not visible to you?

If you have locked it and set a passing score, and then then go to try it out, but can't access the certificate, make sure (especially if you are viewing as a student) that you complete the module before the certificate module with a passing score.

If you didn't do that that system is working as it should an not allowing you access because it does not see that passing score.

However, if you did complete the previous module with a passing score then I'm not sure how to help and the folks from claroline will need to assist you.

Hope that helps to at least further track the issue and getting working for you.

Thanks to all,
It's been a time now since i'll have to upgrade my website.
I'll have to have a look at Clarolines latest version too.

Also another, yet somehow related question: does Claroline exist in a specific version for iPad? Or is it compatible anyway since it'll be implemented onto the website?

I did a modification at track_exercise_details.php that allows users to print a certificate once they cpomplete exercise (or course if you set this to be a final exam)

it has been tested with Claroline 1.11.3 but should work with other other versions.

For users in order to print their certificates they just have to view their exercise results (if they have passed), they have to click "exercises" then "My Results" and then select the exercise submission of interest.

There is a setting on when/who will be able to see the certificate bassed on their score.

You can find more details plus the modified file at

http://tecorange.com/content/claroline- ... -print-mod

hope this helps

            .   '<th>'
            .   get_lang('Question') . ' ' . $questionIterator
            .   '</th>' . "\n"
            .   '</tr>' . "\n"
            .   '</thead>'."\n";

            $out .= '<tr>'
            .     '<td>' . "\n";

            $out .= $question->getQuestionFeedbackHtml();

            $out .= '</td>' . "\n"
